DESCRIPTION OF THE ELEKTOR VOTING SYSTEM 

The wireless voting system is suitable for carrying out voting at company meetings, shareholders’ meetings, congresses, committees, events, presentations, seminars, contests, festivals, etc. – at any occasion which requires a large number of votes or grades to be gathered and the final results presented in a short amount of time. The voting can be carried out anonymously or not.

It consists of wireless voting systems and a transceiver unit connected to a central server (a personal computer) running the software for collecting, displaying, exporting and processing votes, and enabling control and monitoring of the voting process.

Reliability

RELIABILITY

The ELEKTOR voting devices communicate with the transceiver module through the 2,4GHz frequency band. The voting device sends the chosen value/data in an encrypted form, so as to prevent abuse. At the other end, the transceiver module receives the data, decodes it, interprets it and sends it to the computer through a USB connection. The system confirms the receipt of the data by sending the signal for successful receipt and registration of the submitted vote to the voting device.

You also needn’t worry about the batteries running out during the voting, as the system is equipped with a two-stage battery status alerting system. When the terminal sends the first low battery voltage alert to the control program, there is still enough energy for at least 5 more hours of operation.

The numerous problems, potential risks and falsification of voting results related to voting can be abolished and prevented with wireless electronic voting.

The voting is highly secure, as the wireless electronic voting system and its architecture are designed to provide high security. All communication with the terminals is protected with a key which prevents hacking, tapping and false identification.

The wireless voting system is designed so that only registered terminals can vote, regardless of the number of nearby terminals.

SPEED AND CAPACITY

The speed of voting is an important factor when implementing projects which rely on voting. Most of the events at which voting devices are used are time-limited and require the final results to be known immediately after the voting is finished, or partial results to be known during the voting.

The entire Elektor system operates very fast. The system can process up to 100 terminals per second. Up to 1000 wireless voting devices can be used simultaneously.

WIRELESS COMMUNICATION

The wireless voting devices communicate with the transceiver module using the IEEE 802.11 protocol through ISM radio waves (2,400 to 2,500MHz frequency band). This band is open for general use, so most wireless devices communicate through it, meaning that the communication channels can become overloaded. The ELEKTOR device can generally operate under these conditions, but the data transfer speed can decrease due to the channel being overloaded. This is why we have equipped our system with technology which automatically chooses the channel with the least interference.

The new ELEKTOR III wireless voting device a practically infinite number of voters to vote wirelessly with two options of voting method:

  • VOTING WITH GRADES FROM 1 to 10,
  • VOTING WITH VOTES: »FOR«, »AGAINST« and »ABSTAIN«.

FUNCTIONALITY AND VOTING

Each voting unit is equipped with a keyboard with twelve buttons whose function depends on the voting method determined through the transceiver by the software. When voting with grades, 10 of the buttons are active, and when voting with votes, only three are active. In order to provide a better user interface and a better user experience, we have equipped the voting devices with 2.4-inch LCD screens with 128x64 pixels.

When the voting begins, the display lights up and alerts the voter of the beginning of the voting by displaying a question mark. Depending on the voting method, the user chooses the grade or vote they want to submit by pushing the appropriate button. The submitted grade or vote is displayed on the LCD screen and is displayed until the voting is completed. Should the voter change their opinion during the voting or wishes to vote differently, they can do so by pushing the appropriate button, thus resubmitting their vote or grade during the voting.

After the voting is completed, the device goes into standby mode in order to save energy, and remains inactive until the next voting. The device can be completely shut down through the software.

The ELEKTOR II enables simple wireless electronic voting in the following method:

Voting with votes: FOR, AGAINST and ABSTAIN.

 

FUNCTIONALITY AND VOTING

Each voting device is equipped with three buttons (YES, NO, ABS), with which voters cast their votes. The vote can be cast only when voting is permitted (active), which is indicated by the LED indicator at the top of the voting device, and the voting is initiated by pushing the “Voting” button in the control program.

Along with the final results, the system accurately records the votes of all individual voters.

Excel spreadsheet generation. You can customize our template according to your wishes and needs. The votes are entered directly into a spreadsheet at the location you specify.

The Zcom program, which is loaded into the toolbar and takes care of the connection with the voting devices, serves as the interface between the Excel spreadsheet or purpose-made software and the electronic voting system. The program enables independent voting and enables simple connection to the user’s software through OLE.

The voting system comes with documents on how to integrate the voting system with your software (MS Office, Visual Basic, C++, Delphi, etc.).
